The Chosen One
It was a usual day in GBS, the walking to school (not literally from the hill of course), prayer meeting at teacher's room, lining up, and hearing Mr. Siew's lovely voice. He was scolding most of the monitors for not sitting in front and normally this would be the time where everyone shuts down. But he said a line which, I must say, was quite profound. Too profound for him in that matter, maybe he took it from a book. Anyway, he said something like this:
"You are monitors for a reason. I did not choose you, God did. Out of all the people in the world, you are the one sitting up front!"
Then he became himself again and continued his rant. But my mind was still pondering about his previous line. It sounds familiar. Wait, it is. I am a Christian, chosen by God, for a reason. Out of all the people in the world, I am one of the few being up front being the ambassador of God. There's this sentence that Hwei puts up on her MSN that came from this Indian speaker who talked about The Old Testament. Don't really know how to spell his name, so sorry! Anyway, the sentence is:
"We are ambassadors of Christ, live with that dignity."
Something like that. An ambassador is someone who represents his country and stays in another country. So whatever he does does reflect on his country, or some sort. Now, as a Christian, I do admit, that sometimes my behaviour does not reflect in God in a good way and I tend to be one who doesn't do anything, or simply not being up front. But the line coming from an unexpected person came as a knock on my head. Guess God works in miraculous ways. Nevertheless, I shall take it as my duty to go up front, share the gospel, and be a good ambassador of Christ. Yes, there may be troubles up ahead, but the thought of knowing someone is behind me and people beside me (that's you!) to help carry me when I stumble, push me when I need it is a comforting thought. I .... am the chosen one.
For which I am an ambassador in bonds that therein, I may speak boldly, as ought to speak.

'OA Once Again' Again!
Continuing where I left on the last OA post, we went to Tasik Bera after the 1st kampung. Sharma and Adrian created a new unit measurement for lame.... and credit goes to me for giving them the inspiration. Anyway, we went to Tasik Bera and sat on a motorboat seeing the lake. The dude driving the boat was a bit panicky because according to him, too many already on the boat and kept telling us not to move. As a result, we became like ghost statues, only moving our eyes. After the sight-seeing, we went to swim! It was really fun doing a lot of crazy stuff and Aaron was really scared that he might drowned, don't think he knows how to swim.
After the dip, we washed up and went to the other kampung at 7 or so. Shu Lynn was making a joke introducing Sharma something like:

Sharma replied:
"They also black wei... racist against the whole kampung izzit?"
It was a good thing Shu Lynn didn't use it because they were in fact darker than Sharma. So the joke was dropped and we went to makan! Had to use hands and I wasn't really used to it. Aaron, on the other hand, was moving his hand so fast I felt slower than a snail. But fortunately, I wasn't the last so maybe I'm quite good at eating hands.... with hands.
We went to the church building, waited for the kids to come. I notice this particular kid who was about 7. Asked him for directions to the toilet (we have a toilet!), when I asked for his age, he said 1. Looking at his size, it was a bit unbelievable for him to be 1. Found out later he got mixed up between 'Tahun apa' and 'Umur apa'.
The songleading went smoothly and Sharma's game was rather interesting. We went on with our sketch and I must say, we did better this time, having a sword made out of newspaper instead of a tukul. It was a good thing that when Adrian asked what David used to chop off Goliath's head, they didn't answer 'surat khabar!'
After that, we distributed toys to them and played with them a bit. The toys were kinda fascinating and there was this particular toy that I wished I could bring back. Don't know how to explain the toy, but then Adrian could do very well in it. The main objective is for the 2 round things to hit one another. Something like that. Only Physics students can do according to Adrian, so accountants,management students, lawyers and others, don't bother trying.
I think Hwei explained what we did next after that so I shall not elaborate further. Just wanted to point out that I was touched by Shu Lynn's testimonial. Sharing so much about oneself and finishing it, she really deserved credit for it. Adrian's testimonial was also good, really showed a big change in his life. So good job guys! OA Once Again!
Mind you OA does not mean Once Again but rather Orang Asli! It's the 4th trip I've been to so I'm one of the more experienced ones there, knowing what to expect and expecting the worst. Here's a list of those who went:
Adrian - 1st time
Sharma - 1st time
Aaron - 1st time too I think.
Me - 4th time.
Big sis - 3rd time.
2nd sis - 3rd time.
Shu Lynn - 1st time.
Unc Rod - Plenty of times!
I think those who went before knows what it feels like walking in the jungle, sleeping on those bamboo stuff that ineffectively massages your back painfully, etc, etc. The 1st timers probably didn't expect these and the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and plenty timers kinda scared them by saying these stuff.
Anyway, the starting of the journey was a bit messy. We had a lot of stuff to bring and we used up every space available to put the bags and gifts for the kids. The best part was, we were so glad that we managed to squeeze everything inside Unc Rod's Unser that we completely forgot about the props for the Sunday School! To top it up, we left at 8.30, 30 minutes later than planned.
It was 2 hours into the journey that we realised the props weren't with us. We went to Tesco's enemy, Econsave to buy impromptu props like toy hammers as Goliath's swords, ping pong balls for David's pebbles. The girls AND Adrian went to buy Card boards for the memory verses thingy. Unc R and Aaron went to buy biscuits and drinks to have fellowship with the kampung kids later on.
We continued our ride and after meeting Unc Charles, we went into this very very white van that doesn't look dirty at all. Everyone present in the car agrees that he drives like Kimi Raikkonen himself, moving so fast that everything just flashed past us. The condition of the roads was very very bad and there were a lot of holes but we miraculously managed to pull through the trip!
Once we reached there, we went into the room where the kids were waiting and sitting down so QUIETLY and NICELY that we did not have to chase them around asking them to sit down unlike some other poor youths ;) . Anyway, I accompanied Shu Lynn in her song leading while Unc R played the guitar. The singing session was done quite good and we introduced ourselves as:
Shu Lynn: Kakak Lynn. (nickname: Shulynni or something)
Me: Shaun but they call me Saun. (nickname: Already have one)
Big Sis: Kakak Susu. (nickname: Shueni)
2nd sis: Kakak Hwei. (nickname: Say Tse and Hwei fast fast and you get 'Suey' = Malang)
Sharma: Abang Sharm. (nickname: Sharmani or Armani)
Adrian: Abang Mau. (nickname: Mawi!)
Aaron: Abang Aaron. (nickname: Aaroni)
Unc R: Pak Cik Rodney. (nickname: Don't have)
We taught the kids how to make hats and did the sketch. It was done faster than expected and the kids weren't as responsive as we had hoped. Anyway, the acting was a bit weird but then we managed to pull through. Remember that the props were toy hammer as Goliath's sword and ping pong balls as David's pebbles. 2nd sis explained the story and she asked 3 questions:
1. Siapakah orang yang melakonkan Goliat? (Goliat is Goliath in Malay)
2. Apakah yang digunakan oleh Daud untuk bunuh Goliat? (Daud is David in Malay)
3. Apakah yang digunakan oleh Daud untuk pancung kepala Goliat?
Right answer should be:
1. Sharma.
2. Batu.
3. Pedang.
They answered:
1. Goliat! Goliat!
2. Bom!
3. Tukul.
We were laughing when we heard the answers! We as actors failed to the lowest point wei!! Anyway, after explaining to them, we went on to the memory verses. The technique was very interesting and though it was a big long for kids, some of them managed to recite all of it and credit goes to them! We couldn't hang around for this kampung because we had another one so after finishing the class, we packed our stuff, talked a bit and left for our next destination. Will talk more about it next time, or not the readers would be sleeping by now. Pictures will also be up for the next post!
